Rise above the darkness, as the emptiness remains.
Deliver us from evil, and help us seek your face.
Free us from these burdens, as we toil in selfish shame.
Help us rise above the ashes, as we call upon your name!
Darkness overwhelms us, no matter how we fight.
Enemies prowl within in our midst, though we know you’re there.
We lie awake in angst, praying to make it through the night.
Help us rise above the water; fill our lungs with your life-giving air!
It feels as though we’re drowning, though its only a bad dream…
We must be approaching Glory, as the attacks seem to grow stronger.
Hold us closer to your heart, Lord: We long to be seen!
Wrap us in your loving, warm embrace- just a little longer…
As we delve into your Word, and worship you, Our King!
Your light begins to radiate; The suffering subsides.
Your people now surround us; as we’re listening-
Will you speak to our hearts, as we submit to you, our guide?
The beauty now unfolds, and the light comes pouring in.
Tenderness prevails; it all becomes so clear.
Hearts are softened, eyes are opened, cleansing of this sin.
Arms wide open, words are spoken- suddenly we hear!
Chains are broken, wounds are healed…
The call of your voice is on our life.
Help us follow, to forever seek you, we appeal:
Hear our heart’s cry, let our praise ring- To the highest Heavens in the sky!
Greetings RISENfitness family! I write to you out of the depths of my heart, today, from a place where I felt overwhelmed by darkness. I had been smooth-sailing into greater intimacy with our Father, and isn’t it just like the devil… the attacks came. Even though I knew it was him, I had a hard time shaking the sadness, depression, shame, self-pity, ingratitude, and plain-old bad attitude. It didn’t help that it was my birthday week… and I became ill out of nowhere, and overcome by insomnia! The devil had me in his sights for sure.
I was missing my Dad, and feeling pretty miserable… so I tried everything I could think of. I went to church, I made it to small group, I prayed, I worshiped, I read scripture, I listened to worship music, I journaled, I listened to scripture on the Holy Bible app a friend told me about, I texted friends for prayer, I relaxed, I went to the pool, I slept in, I drank orange juice, I cared for my body… I even took time away from the gym! Nothing was working. My heart was an ugly mess and it was pouring out onto my poor husband.
Sometimes the Lord gives us warnings or even dreams about what’s going on. Sometimes it may be that we have somehow invited the enemy in. Or it could be a spiritual attack. Either way, God is allowing it, so He must be using it for our good!
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” -Romans 8:28 NIV
What do we do in these times? I propose that in these times… we press in. We know we do not war against flesh and blood. We know that this situation is only temporary. We know that God is for us, so who can be against us?! We already know the ending: God is victorious! So press into God. Praise Him. Ask those around you to help you fight this battle and warfare in prayer. Don’t claim defeat, but speak words of hope and life over your circumstance! Seek joy. Seek His peace. Don’t leave any room for the enemy! Focus on the positive and what God has done.
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” -Philippians 4:8 NIV
Surround yourself with positive people, worship music, or whatever tools help you. Then: Rise above! Rise above this momentary affliction. Rise above your situation. Rise above your bad attitude. Give it to God. Lay it at His feet and ask Him to move- and then expect Him to come. Have an attitude of faith and expect Him to deliver on His promise! His promise is yes and Amen!
