Dare to BE YOU.

“Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.1 Corinthians 12:14-18 NIV (Emphasis added)

Welcome to Day Fourteen of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting- Two weeks down! You’re doing great and we are so excited for what God is doing in your life, and the lives of those around you!  Maybe by now, you have had conversations with others over what/how they are fasting, but we challenge you not to compare yourselves. God has called us each to our own individual fast, walk, and growth process. God has uniquely wired us with particular gifts, skills, talents, and personalities. Focus on your journey.

This individual journey also applies to your broader perspective. As you see in the scripture above, we are not all designed to be the same. Perhaps God called you to be “a foot” and you just don’t feel like that is the most glamorous role. Well, that foot is responsible for stability, standing tall, strength, holding us upright, walking, running, and even dancing. Focus on your individual strengths. We weren’t all called to be “an ear” or “a hand,” because that would be a poorly functioning, not to mention silly looking body! Can you imagine a worship team of all drummers? Or a church without someone in the gift of administration? All of the individual body parts are important, and together they operate in a beautiful harmony.

Be great at being yourself, rather than a poor imitation of someone else. (-unknown)

“God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.” That’s incredible when you think about it… God thought about, created, crafted, and hand-picked each and every one of us for a particular, specific assignment. He made our mannerisms, preferences, and calling… exactly how HE wanted them to be. So live that and love it! BE YOU. Don’t worry about what others may think or say. (They’re probably not thinking what you think they’re thinking anyway!) So if you want to raise your hands in worship, raise your hands. If you want to wear bright pink on Sundays, wear bright pink. If you love exercising in your Dad’s 1970’s gym shorts, do it. Just DO YOU. Be that arm. Be that leg.

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10 NIV

If you fill the role God created you to fill, you will have much more peace. You can stop pretending to be something you are not. You can let go. Stop trying to impress/please/win the approval of that lady who gives you the evil eye. You cannot please everyone- and it certainly doesn’t please God to see you so pressed to win her favor. Live to please the Lord, and you’ll do right every time. (Well almost every time, we aren’t perfect, but we try!) So don’t feel like you have to drive a particular car, live in a certain area, have a fancy job title, sport a six-pack, or volunteer for every committee. Just do what God calls YOU to do. You were made for greatness. Don’t miss out on that by trying to live someone else’s life. Run YOUR race… and hopefully you will one day hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Thank you for joining us for Day 14 ‘in the life’ of our fast here at RISENfitness. We are learning how to be “us” right beside you:)

Here’s to your Health and 21 Day Fast!
