Detox for your Soul

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’” Matthew 6:9-13

As we enter into day four of 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, let’s look at the model Jesus gave us for how we pray. This outline may help us pray strategically throughout the next three weeks. Specifically, in this first week, we can enter into thanksgiving, reflecting on how good God is, how He loves us, and all that He has blessed us with. Think about answered prayers and renew your faith!

If you are doing a restrictive food fast, the first week of the fast is usually the toughest. Your body is likely experiencing symptoms of detoxification from foods you normally consume…or adjusting to a new way of eating. You may endure headaches, sciatica, lethargy, crankiness, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Along with the physical detox, perhaps its time for a bit of spiritual detox…

“Forgive us our debts…” How about we ask God what those are? Sure, there are some obvious ones. But take some time with the gardener and let him prune you. You may not even be aware of the condition of your heart! What fears can God help you conquer? Are there areas of unforgiveness, bitterness, or resentment you are harboring? Are your priorities out of balance? Do you need a fresh outlook or mindset? Ask God to show you the things He wants to do in and through your life. Then “detox” and eliminate those things that are poisoning your life! Pray for God to not only reveal these things, but to give you strength, grace, and discipline to tend to the branches. Pruning is a painful process, but just like a plant that needs pruning, we need to be pruned so that we can produce good fruit!

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” John 15:1-2 NIV

This is day 4 ‘in the life’ of our fast here at RISENfitness. We are being pruned right along side you:)
