Take One Step.

“The LORD directs the steps of the godly.

He delights in every detail of their lives.

-Psalm 37:23 NLT

So… what is your goal? What is that “thing” that you’ve been putting off because it seems overwhelming? Look at that vision and quickly answer one question: “What is the first step?” If you could do just ONE THING that would move you toward the direction of accomplishing that daunting task, or living out your dream, what would it be? Ask God to direct you and give you wisdom in what He needs you to do to be healthier.

Here are a few practical examples, as they relate to RISENfitness:

You’re trying to incorporate exercise into your routine: Set a goal this week to exercise for five minutes a day. Dust off that exercise bike and set it up in front of the TV. Now, all you have to do is pedal during one commercial break and your goal is accomplished! Prefer walking outside? Walk once around the block- or go to the mall for climate control.

You want to eat healthier: Go into that fridge or pantry and throw out all of the “junk food.” Yes, we know it might seem painful… but that is less temptation you have to fight! If you’re thinking it might be wasteful, remember that eating that so-called “food” is only going to push you further from your goal. It is not good for you. Unless you plan on boxing it up and taking it to the nearest homeless shelter, it is better for everyone’s health to eliminate the junk.

You know you need more sleep: Start your winding-down routine earlier tonight, and plan on implementing a ten minute earlier bed time for one week.

You need more quiet time with God: Set an alarm on your phone to take a five minute break in the morning, at lunch, or after dinner. Use that time to pray, read a devotional, or study The Word (Bible).

While these might seem like small changes, the result is a sense of accomplishment, moving in the right direction, and realizing you can achieve God-size goals for a better life! Once you incorporate one small change this week, try adding another small goal each week. This could mean five more minutes on the treadmill, preparing a healthy grocery list, or bumping your devotion to ten minutes. While seeking God for direction, and incorporating small changes, you will look back in a few months and be surprised by how far you’ve come! Our Father cares about every detail of your life. God bless you on your journey!

Here’s to your health!
